How can psychotherapy benefit me?
A trained psychotherapist can offer an environment in which you can:
Psychotherapy sessions are confidential. This means that you can talk about things you might not feel be able to discuss with anyone else.
The therapist will aim to help you find better ways to cope, or bring about changes in the way you think and behave to improve your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Psychotherapy sessions can be
How many sessions will I have?
Psychotherapy can be short or long term. The number of sessions will depend on you, your therapist, the type of therapy and the depth and complexity of the issues you want to resolve. It is unusual for therapy to last for less than six sessions. Some types of therapy may last for several years.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy used to reprogram the subconscious mind. In hypnosis, you put your mind and body into a heightened state of learning, making you more susceptible to suggestions for self-improvement or behaviour modification. The goal is to put the subconscious and conscious mind in harmony, which in turn helps give you greater control over your behaviour and emotions.
Hypnotherapy is not like what you see in stage shows, where you’ll often see people barking like a dog or clucking like a chicken. There are no swinging pocket watches. In a hypnotherapy session, you are in control the whole time. You will hear the suggestions made to you, and you will be able to remember them after the session.
Elizabeth is additionally trained in the treatment of IBS using Gut Directed Hypnotherapy, and in Mnemodynamics, which is a technique that allows childhood trauma to be worked through to minimise triggers that initiate unhelpful emotional patterns in everyday functioning.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique that is used to heal physical and mental trauma, and to support mental clarity and spiritual well-being.
In Japanese, the word "rei" refers to a higher intelligence that permeates all living and nonliving entities and guides the inherent functioning of the universe. The word "ki" refers to the nonphysical energy that flows through everything that is alive, including plants, animals, and human beings—because of this, ki is also often called "life force energy," and is known as qi or chi from other lineages. The combination of these two words is what defines reiki as "spiritually guided life-force energy."
To administer Reiki, the healer channels life force energy through her hands to another. The Reiki flows through the affected parts of the subject's energy field and charges them with positive energy. It raises awareness in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are contained. This causes the negative energy—such as stress, anxiety, physical pain, sadness, confusion, etc.—to loosen its grip, allowing the touch of the Reiki healer to clarify the energy pathways.
Clients report feeling many different sensations during Reiki, from localised tingling, warmth, cold, vibration and shaking to nothing at all. Every person is different in their experience, but it is commonly found that the client feels very relaxed and calm after a session.
